Anyone have any experience with the Springfield Armory XD pistols? How accurate/pointable are they?

This is my next purchase after I buy a TT33 Tokarev, a Model 70 Winchester in .300WSM, and the Tikka I posted about earlier.

My buddy Has a 3rd Generation HS2000 and it out shot my glock 34.  I like the fact that Springfield is coming out with a 5 inch barrel soon.  I am definitely sold.

PS.... Thanks to my wife, I am also getting back my clark custom Mini 14 and Glock 19........Thanks baby

Whats an HS2000?

IMHO.....its was the best thing since sliced bread.

Only thing wrong now is that Springfield is importing them and charging $100 more than what they used to cost.......

The HS2000 = XD

It is the same firearm with a different name.

My brother bought an HS2000, and it is a very user friendly design that is suprisingly accurate. The barrel to slide fit near the muzzle (it is bell shaped) contributes greatly to that, I think. It locks up tight with the slide.

I like it much better than my similarly sized Glock 19.

I have been thinking about a XD in .40 as I only have 9's and .45's.

The HS2000 was a hell of a buy before Springfield picked up the line. Only so-so now.

You guys are forgetting that now it has a lifetime warranty.  It is also improved over the original HS2000 guns and now they have long slide "tactical" versions.

DevL, there were no improvements made in terms of operation.  There ere mainly cosmetic improvements... additional serrations on the slide, an equipment rail (the first generation HS2000 did not have such a rail), etc.  HS2000 ALWAYS had a lifetime warranty and Springfield Armory honors that warranty on the HS2000.

The XD is offered in more calbres, but HS2000 was slated to be introduced in those calibres anyway.  The long slide version is a nice concept, but I haven't seen one yet.

+P 125 gold dots shoot about 2" @ 25yds. Grip angle is similar to a 1911. Nice trigger, field strips like sig, $20 factory high caps......what more could you want????

I was lucky enough to get one of the HS2Ks when they first hit the shelves. And it's been fantastic. I have two years experience with it now and untold thousands of rounds through it. My Croation Sensation is more accurate than my SiGPro, and almost as accurate as my STAR UltraStar.

The current XD is the same gun as the HS2000, only the stampings on the slide have changed. I'm now eagerly awaiting the XD-45. Now that will definitely be a gotta have.

For pointability, the HS/XD was patterend after the SiG 228 and uses the normal SiG, 1911 grip angle. The predecessor to the HS2000 was the HS-95.

HS-95

Even at the higher prices that SA charges, the XD is still a bargain and I expect to see the prices continue going up as it increases market share. Expect to see it in the $600-800 range in a couple years.

Fox,
Do yourself a favor, and buy one of these pistols! I've had my XD-9 for a little over a month now and here's my findings.

I 've tried about 6 different types of ammo through it and it has no preference. They all went bang and all produced 2 in. or better groups at 25 yds. No jams and no FTF whatsoever. Even the cheap stuff shot good groups!

It can use +p and +p+ ammo, so for defensive purposes its a go.

It can become a high cap pistol with minimal tweaking to Smith, Beretta, Sig mags or just buy a XD-40 mag and stuff 15 rnds of 9mm in that.

As far as pointability,Its straight ahead and fast. I love 1911's, and the grip angle is IDENTICAL. Point your finger and you're on target.

Three internal safeties is nice and you dont have to remember to de-activate any one of them. Just get a good firing grip and pull the trigger.

These guns are a total bang for the buck, and if you shop around you may find a used HS2000 or a used Springfield for under $400 regularly. It really doesnt matter which, as they're both the same pistol. Although Springfield did enlarge the extractor on the XD. But most owners didnt seem to have a problem with the original. Go to www.HS2000talk.com for tons more info on the HS2000 and XD series pistols. Hope this helps.

The XD is an awesome combat pistol, way ahead of most others. Mine's a 40 and I love it. A well tuned 1911 is the only thing better, IMO. Do yourself a favor and get one!

How good and how accurate is an XD?? After shooting my XD-40, I am going to trade my Ruger P90 in next year and buy an XD-45 when they come out. Others have told you about their XD-9's. The XD-40 is every bit as good. I can hardly wait for the XD-45.

Thanks for all the responses! From what I'm hearing, sounds like it'll be well worth the money!
