I have an oportunity to trade a series 1 Combat Custom for a new stainless TRP. The Kimber is box stock other than IMAX night sights. It has the commander upper and officer model receiver, it's all steel and has some finish that looks like robar but its stock Kimber finish. The TRP is stainless with night sights, kevlar thin grip panels and some interior changes(Wilson extractor, ejector not sure what else). I can trade for $200 difference, the TRP is new in the box. Am I gaing anything or just throwing money away for a perceived step up in quallity? |

Well, my experience of late is that the Springfield is the better gun. I've bought 2 Series I Kimbers, neither of which ran right out of the box. Both needed new extractors (installed Wilson bullet proofs). That cured my stainless compact. The full size custom LE was still probematic, and was having feeding problems with cast reloads (which run perfectly in my other 1911s), and had an improperly functioning slide stop. I sold the gun and replaced it with an OD green loaded Springfield. This gun has been a delight. Accurate and more importantly, reliable. I don't miss the Kimber LE, and feel the SA is the better gun. Are you having any problems with your Kimber, or just want to upgrade? |
