I'd like to know where to get one (eventually)

they talk  pretty big about 'em over at FN files in the C&R fourm section.

Are you talking about he C and R rifle or the 9mm pistol? I always get those two confused.

It's still beyond me why FN would have two firearms that have the same designation. I've seen FN 49s at Sheils several times, they look nice, I've handled them breifly but havn't spoken to anyone who has shot or owned one.

The main reason not to like them is their heavy, DAO trigger.  European police departments like that feature for liability reasons (just like many departments here put extra heavy trigger springs in their Glocks), but it really reduces the gun's usefulness beyond anything but a close-range defensive weapon.  They aren't fun to shoot all day long.  After 2 mags, I was tired, and I can shoot half a case of ammo at a time in a Glock.

Other than the trigger, they are good pistols.  Not a lot of aftermarket support, though, so holsters, nightsights, mags, and other items aren't easy to find.

Thanks Troy. The security company that "secures" our jobsite just recently adopted these as their primary carry weapons. I am looking to buy a Glock soon and am trying to understand why they would choose this weapon over the Glocks....??? I haven't seen any forums about them or heard anyone even mention them at any of the forums I visit. Anyway..thanks again.

You'll often find that departmental weapons can be selected for decidedly different reasons than you would think.  The person making the decision may really like the gun personally, the department may have gotten a super deal on them, or they may have been "sold" on them by a persuasive dealer.
