| What is minimum overall length a rifle can be from muzzle to end of buttstock? |
| I said from muzzle to end of buttstock. I said nothing about a cartridge and to my knowledge, being that I'm an Applications Engineer, overall length refers to anything you need to know what the overall length is, minimum meaning what is the least amount. So to reword my original question what is the minimum legal length a rifle has to be. Thank you. |

26" with or without the stock. Working (unpinned) folders allowed on prebans...No reference given to where the folder has to be pinned on a post ban(length of stock), just as long as the whole rifle is 26+" long. LE entry stocks are acceptable as long as the rifle is over 26" long. If you have a rifle, and the barrel is less than 16", you have an SBR, which is illegal w/o the stamp. If you have a stock on the rifle, the barrel has to be over 16" long. If you have no stock, and the barrel is under 16", you have a pistol...but it has to weigh under 50 ozs, and cannot have a pistol grip in front. |
Thanks for clarifying. With most of us, you have to be specific. The 'legal' requirement, or the 'webster's dictionary' requirement. I'm sure you're familiar with the barrel length of 16 inches per federal law, but I'm not familiar with the laws regarding the overall length. I do know that cutting off the buttstock usually shortens it too much. I'm not sure if that has to do with the actual length of the rifle, or the fact that the buttstock was cut off. M@ |
But only if it began life as a pistol, according to BATF opinion. Otherwise you have an SBR. The 50 oz limitation is a 1994 Scary Weapons Ban issue and not directly related to the Pistol/Rifle/SBR issues which are in the Militia Disarmament act of 1934 |
