Using 30 round USGI mags and South African ammo I recently had rounds randomly hang up and fail to ramp upward into the chamber. These mags functioned properly over the past 5 range sessions. It actually caused the jammed bullet to move back into the shell casing. This seemed to be occurring within the 1st ten rounds of a fully loaded mag. BTW, what would have happened if a shortened round had entered the chamber and fired? I installed new springs and green followers purchased from R-Guns but it has not solved the problem. When I use the original 10 round mag that came with my Armalite AR-15 it always feeds properly. So, I'm perplexed...is it mag feed lips, chamber problems, ammo deficiency, etc. I'd appreciate any info or suggestions from those of you who may have seen this in the past. Thanks in advance...JJ |

Your first step should always be to consult the -10 and the -23&P (assuming you clean & lube per the -10). Both can be downloaded from old.ar15.com/books First thing I'd try is to tighten up the magazine catch (look in the -10 for the procedure - its quick, easy and requires no tools). |

Forest...Many thanks for your suggestion to tighten the magazine catch. Just one turn clockwise made a difference in preventing the mag from rocking back and forth. While I have not yet confirmed the fix on the range, I believe you may have gotten me on the right track. Thanks also for including the website for the AR-15 books...it's now bookmarked and will provide me with a wealth of information...JJ |
