I was also wondering how many preban mags people have. I just bought 5 more, 30rounders. I have one orlite, which I don't like, but I have it, and I have 1 20 rounder Colt. So that will be 7 and damn, I want to buy more! Get em while I can! Mine are all for my AR15! |
|
As many as I will ever need: 6 Okay 30 rounders for 2 3-mag pouches 1 Adventureline 30 rounder: for the mag well 4 Orlites: 3 in a mag pouch, 1 loaded and ready 1 Colt 20 round for prone shooting 1 U.S.A. (aack!) 5 round for hunting My take on it is this: If I ever purchase another AR15 type rifle, I might consider more, but in the mean time, I can only carry so much at one time. Of course, their trade value might be a consideration if they ever dry up or get banned. How many do soldiers carry at one time? -White Horse |
| I think I have about 2 dozen 30 round Thermolds -- might be a couple more or less than that. In any case, I figure with that amount, it'll be a while before I'll have to start recharging them with the ammo I've got on stripper clips. BTW, as a subject of the PRK, that's all I'm ever going to get to own -- which is why I'm a fan of stripper clips and charging guides. |
| I forced myself to stop at 25. 15 are NIW USGI tucked away in an ammocan for a rainy day. Six are fully loaded, ready to go. The other four are Orlites and Thermolds. I use them for fu**ing around. I have the new Bushy 10rd mag that I use at formal ranges. So, I guess I have 26. No more for me. Buying more ammo. |
Go to the library. Make a copy of your DL. Snail Mail it to Eric. Once he has it on file, go nuts.... Scott |

I served in the Marines we were issued six 30 rounders,I am of the opinion that a bare minimum of magazines for your ar15 rifle is 7 30's,a combat load with one in your rifle ready to go. I think it would be ideal for you to have 14 per rifle though to replace ones that break or if for some reason you lose them,"mag retention is a must". For the M1a or Fal its the same 7 and 14 per rifle. But really truly more is better. |

I have maybe a little over a hundred - about 75% 30 rounders. Most are is storage or SHTF ready. I keep about 20 for shooters. I have an M16 (with a second in process) and 2 Ars to feed so you can't have enough mags. This comming from a guy that has 3 dozen mags for the Vector Arms Uzi and another 3 dozen mags for the Norrell 10/22. 4-5 dozen for the FALs (they are cheap). Alas, I only have 6 20 rounders for my KAC SR-25 (not only expensive but hard to find). I also have about 10 mags per handgun. Remember, without functioning quality mags your gun is a single shot. |

For the range and just messing around: 10 Orlites 1 GI 30 rd 2 Colt 20 rd 12 steel 30 rd (all work) 4 steel 40 rd (all work) Plan to add at least one 20 or 30 rd GI to this group every time I go to a gun show from now on. For SHTF 9 new US made Thermolds 120 excellent or new 30 rd GI 20 20 rd GI (all but one is a like new Colt) |

I started buying mags here about a week before I bought my first AR from Cav Arms. I have: 1 Orlite 30 2 English 30's (Steel) 4 USGI 30's 1 USGI 20 2 DPMS 10's I'm ordering 4 more of the English mags next week and I'm trying to find a good source for new Orlites. The Orlite just looks/works great with the polymer CAV-15 lower. |
Yeah but you have to have some for your friends. Thats like saying 10-20 AR's is sufficient |
If your wife doesn't think you're crazy, you're doing something wrong. |

About 10 20's, maybe 6 30's. I should probably get some more 30's, but I've been more concentrating on 20's because I use them for matches. Next gun show I'll try to stock up a little if I find a good price. And 3 hi-caps for my Beretta, a couple mags for my Walther. Probably a dozen mags for my M1 Carbine, mix of 15's and 30's. Lots of Garand clips. |
|
The rule of thumb I follow is to buy a weapon and then spend at least half of the purchase price purchasing extra magazines. Of course, that depends on the weapon. I was able to lay in a pretty hefty supply of USGI AR-15 mags for about what I payed for my rifle. I also bought a C-Mag for the Hell of it. My M1A is another story entirely. I only have 8 mags for it right now, but I've found that carrying that many mags is about all I can handle (along with 160 rounds in strippers for replenishment). |
