As seen in Gun List Magazine:
DPMS Panther .308 Long Range Rifle
Available September 2002
SST 24" barrel
Polymer 10 round waffle mag
ribbed aluminum free float tube
Picture looks promising.
Any thoughts?

Success may depend on how compatible it is with an ArmaLite AR10.  If you can use ArmaLite parts or use the upper on an ArmaLite lower, then it may have a chance.

However, ArmaLite got to the market first, quite sucessfully.  If they go a proprietary route, it may be a hard row to hoe.

If they manage to sell a rifle that works reliably and is conciderably cheaper than the Eagle Arms AR-10 and they can somehow get it to use converted 20-round mags (FAL preferred) instead of the factory polymer 10-round ones it would do well.

That may be the hard part.  Part of ArmaLite's pricing is novelty, but also it's having to spread out the tooling, retooling, and materials cost over fewer rifles, as compared to, say, their AR15s.

Getting one out that's considerably cheaper than an ArmaLite may be possible, but they may have to eat the losses, especially if they have bugs in the system.

If you guys want more info about the magazines it will use and why there'll probably never be an AR-style .308 that uses FAL mags, check DPMS's forum in the Industry Forums.

ASA's supposedly uses FAL mags.  Not sure how sucessfully though.

I couldn't bring myself to buy an ASA.
