I just got back from the range with a buddy.

He had a very very bad day.

He bought a new DLASK upper about a year ago.  However due to construction at his range ( my old range )he has not had a chance to shoot it.

Well today he drove up for a visit and we headed out to my new local club ( I am a member at both the new and old)

The DLASK upper is beauuuutiiiifull

It sports a DMPS flattop upper with 14.5 inch barrel, free float aluminum handguard and DLASK flashhider.

HOWEVER

On his fourth shot....FTE!!
The rim had been ripped clean off the case!

Oh ammo was 1985  vintage IVI ( Canada )

shot 5  same thing.

and 7 and 8.....get the idea??

I gave him some of my Malayian 1997 and....shot number 7 FTE!!  Deformed RIM!!

Any ideas as to what we should be looking at??

Oh the ammo worked like a charm in my 20" Oly SGW

Sounds to me like the chamber might be a little too tight and is in need of reaming?

Try some off the shelf .223 (not 5.56) and see what happens.

BTW, what does the barrel say?  5.56 or .223?

I will have to call him to check the barrel..

However!

When we went to kock the rounds out with a cleaning rod......

They just tapped out...REAL EASY LIKE!

Hmmmm

Sounds like the gas port is TOO big - and the cartridge is trying to be ripped out before the pressure has lowered enough.

Hmmm

I was thinking of something like that as well Forest!

Looking at DLASKs site it looks like they often put on adjustable gas ports on their uppers.

My friends unit does not have one....

However if the port is sized for an adjustable one then it would make sense for them to start with an oversized one that can be "tuned down" by the adjustable unit.

Hmmm

I think that he will have to send the upper back to DLASk to have it looked at.....The simple fix would be to add the gasblock.

Here is the block that he does not have....

Thanks guys!!

I will call him and give him the good/not so good news.

My DPMS 16 bull barrel does the same thing, I cant shoot any surplus out of it ,it is a 223 chamber so I only shoot 223 in it and have had no problems

Ditto what k9dpd said. My DMPS Bull barrel jams on 5.56 but not on .223.

Really?

Thats going to suck even more!

So much for surplus ammo!

But did they just "pop out" with a cleaning rod after?
