I have a new upper, lower, and rail, never assembled.  I plan to Gunkote them before assembly.  Do I need to sand blast them or will degreaser/acetone cleaning and baking get the prep done???

+1. Have done this with 2 ar15's. Just disassemble and do really thorough degrease.

If you blast use 120g ALO3 with about 30-40psi and make sure you have a moisture trap before the blast gun. You should be fine w/o blasting though.

I wash the part with a degreaser (I use Purple Power), rinse well, then dish soap and rinse well. Dry, then soak in acetone 20 minutes and soak again in clean acetone another 20 minutes and agitate occasionally. Bake the acetone off in an oven at 150* for 15 minutes and check for any oil reside. Your ready to GK then. KG gave me this procedure to follow when I called them.

I had anodized 3 lowers and let them dry well before spraying GK thinking the parts should have been grease free after anodizing, but they weren't. Had to blast off the KG and do the above degrease method.
