I'm digging the color combo. Very "Titanfall".

I'm not much for "themed" guns, but that looks pretty damn good. Maybe try a B.E. Meyers 249F since it's kinda spacey looking.

The RAL8000 paired with foliage, gray and the 50 shades of FDE camouflages surprisingly well here in NC.

I'm going to have to re-spray it pretty soon. All the dark colors are rubbing off of the upper and the black anodizing is breaking through on the lower. I kind of like the look, but if I let it go long enough there won't be enough paint on it to justify it being in this thread

Here is a good example of heavy VS light coats of Rustoleum Khaki and Earth Brown.

Top rifle was completely coated in a thick coat of Khaki first then mesh applied and Earth Brown sprayed on.

Bottom was dusted with Khaki then mesh applied and dusted with Earth Brown.

I totally dig the dusting look. It lets the Black show through and gives it a different tint.

What I've been noticing, both in pictures and in person, is that the average 'flat' paint isn't very flat, and reflects more light than any flat color should.

Does anyone know of a spray-can 'flat' type paint that doesn't reflect?

Once in my life I've seen a flat-black car that actually seemed to absorb most light - it was a high-end, larger Mercedes AMG that was done to the 9's (perhaps by the factory?), and was a 'real' flat black.

I used the Rust-Oleum camo colors. I think they call them "ultra flat".

Sorry, no pics at the moment.

I'm really diggin' the dusted w/o base coat look and probably going to do that to one of my SR15s.  My SR15 Mod1 Carbine, which I've posted in this thread a few times, was done using a couple base coats of aervoe followed by several colors of aervoe sprayed over mesh and while it is very durable and looks pretty good, I like how some of the black anodizing shows through.

ETA: pic thread

Cheers

Just sprayed this yesterday, was my first time painting a rifle. Went with Rustoleum Camo khaki, deep forest green, and dark earth. Going to let it cure for a bit and then give it a couple light coats of Rustoleum Dead Flat clear. If I remember I will post a better side profile pic after I have it cleared and all back together.

Really like this color scheme. Is the light color neat the top of the grip the Rustoleum Camo Khaki? I've tested that out and my experience is that it looks much more tan/light brown than the picture you are showing, maybe similar to the color distortion shown on the bottom right of your hexmag.

Thanks.

Thanks. Yes the light color is the khaki, I have noticed that in natural light it looks a bit lighter, indoor lighting it looks a bit darker. I ended up clearing it since posting the pics, which definitely darkened it all up a bit.

Took me a while to get the courage to spray one of my rifles. Now that I’ve done it, I’m thinking I need some kryptek stencils in my life.
Was going for the new Bazooka Green color that Noveske offers.

I don't remember the colors I used, I can look back and find out if you want to know.

I used a dark brown, khaki and foliage green to paint general sections of the rifle (sort of like a candy cane but with camo instead of white and red). Then I hit the whole rifle with a light green (I think it was Krylon brand) to blend everything together. After that all dried, I did some light misting of different colors, light on dark patches and dark on light patches and used a sponge to add more definitive marks.

Lighting sucks since I just snapped this tonight in our basement, but you get the idea.  Wear on the high spots and where the hands normally interface with the gun.   That and the oil soaking in does give it a nice patina.

Preciate that. I'm still digging around trying to find the color I used. I'll post some pics of my first attempt at the snake skin camo as well that I put on my Savage Axis.

Looks neat from close-up, but from any distance it all seems just about one color, and that would then seem to defeat the purpose of breaking up the looks of a rifle with different colors (i.e. camouflage).

After seeing this, I'm starting to rethink what patterns place function over form.  Thank you.

I've had similar concerns with some of the patterns posted,  they have micropatterns but not macropatterns.  They look nice,  but may not be as functional as desired.

Differing macro-patterns with micro-patterns across each macro might be neat.  But it would be work to achieve.

These are the colors I used on my Noveske for the “Bazooka Green” color they came out with. The rustoleum satin green is the color I believe I used by itself. The rest are the ones I mixed on my deer rifle.

My deer rifle was getting banged up since I drag it through the brush with me so I decided to give it some love as well.
