Did the krylon sponge camo on all the ar furniture the other day, sorry no pics but it looks awesome.  Anyhow , I have another stock that I did in solid color rustoleum satin, and that seems way more durable than the krylon camo. The krylon I can practicly scratch off with my fingernail, the rustoleum is way tougher.  Would rustoleum satin clear over the flat krylon give it a little more durability?   If not, I'll leave it until it gets worse and eventually strip it and redo everything with rustoleum satin colors.

ETA: if you are on the fence about painting, DO IT! I started with one magazine, liked it, cracked a few beers and went to town. You really cant screw it up.

On my paint jobs I've built up a good layer of clear coat to finish them off and it has worked great to give it a protective, lasting finish.

ETA: matte clear coat
