I am trying to decide whether to get an AR upper/lower combo reanodized or Cerakoted and I'm getting some conflicting info from different sources. From one source I am told that the anodizing is worn away by abrasive blasting to prep for coating which is undesirable and from another source I'm told that the surface is merely "roughed up" for adherence of the coating and that the anodizing is undamaged. Can anyone shed more light on this subject?

get it re anodised. cerakote needs it removed to stick good, i didnt before and it came off. cant fail if you do it the original way.

going FDE?

If it's a virgin anodized receiver, the cerakote will stick great.  If it's not, you'll want to blast it away prior to cerakoting.  I would just get it re-anodized if it wasn't a new receiver or I only wanted it in black.

CeraKote will stick to anodizing if the surface is prepped correctly. If the anodizing is chipped or worn thru in spots i'd recommend removing it before you apply the CeraKote.

Other than wear areas such as the pinholes what other harm can come from removing the anodizing?
