Alright, I decided a month or so back that I would like to mess with Cerakote, KG 3400, and a few of the other spray and bake finishes. Since I don't really want to use my kitchen oven, I thought a "paint curing oven" would be a fun project. With the help of my wife's dad, this is what I came up with. It did take several hours to complete and still has a few minor things that I want to add, but it's usable. I also got my vertical compressor ready to go and now just need to find a mid-size blasting cabinet. I may go with the stand-alone Harbor Freight model, but am hoping I will luck into something. Let me know what you think and feel free to ask questions or make recommendations.

At a quick glance, i really thought that motor looking thing on the right side was a cat with 1 eye.

So why didnt you want to use the kitchen oven again?

I can use this to dry anything up to about 42" long and it's in the garage instead of my house.  Also, with the casters, I can roll this easily to any place in my garage and quickly get it out of my way.

What is the heating element in the bottom, a coil from a stove?

It's a 2600/1300 oven element with a cover over it.

I bet it would, though it might taste like Permatex and Cerakote!  The temp can be adjusted to pretty much whatever and is way more accurate and steady than a kitchen oven.

Would love to get some more detail on this build perhaps a tutorial... But more specifically, which model safe is that? how is the electrical setup? were components bought new or scavenged? also how well does it work.  I need to build one of these this winter and any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

What oOghostOo said.. I have the same safe, just don't know what else to get to make it into an oven... More info would be great..

I'm in the middle of making the exact same thing using the same cabinet. Awesome...

It's a 10 gun cabinet.  It uses a a J thermocouple with a Love PID.  I used aluminum faced fiber board and secured it with high temp silicone.  I made a grate to fit over the element.  I also secured 3 all-thread bars to hang stuff on.  If you have specific questions, please feel free to PM me.

funny, I just moved an oven in the basement to do the same thing. But that is taking it 2 steps further!

With my ovens one of the things I have found is temperature stratification/layering.  I use a laser temp reader different on the item being baked and it's impressive some of the temp differences from top to bottom.  There is also differences in the bottom of the product temp between when the element is on and the element is off.

I think convection is the answer to this.  I have been trying to come up with a good inexpensive option for putting a fan inside the oven.  So far the only high temp in oven fans I can come up with are pretty spendy.  Most approach it from outside mounted system that brings air out and puts it back in.  I just want a simple small fan inside the oven to keep air moving but can't find one that meets temp spec.

What hanging method will you be using?  My buddy has a vertical oven and he runs a long coated wire through the action/barrel and then through a cork or wood plug and bends the wire.  This plugs the barrel and gives you a hanging wire.
