I have seen a bunch of skull patterned jobs.  The  skulls all look pretty uniform.  What are people using for the patterns?

I don't know for sure, but would suspect tattoo flash. Google "skull tattoo flash".

I used a stencil burner that I bought off amazon for $18.  That and clear acetate.  I have a thread posted around here somewhere.  It's not as easy as just using a stencil though.  It takes some real practice if you want to achieve that 3 demensional look.

ETA....HERE is the link.

Overhead projector sheets work really good.  The packs are expensive, but copy centers will sell you them by the sheet which is great because one sheet does many of the sized stencils you need to do gun stocks.   I also found some clear presentation folders that worked really well.  They were a bit thicker and more flexible.

The base coat was thinned to their specification (30% I think).  For the detail work, I way over reduced it.  I don't know the percentage.  I just played with it until I got it how I wanted it.  I found that retarder was the key to keep the airbrush running properly.  Retarder is your friend

Thanks for confirming that i thought about thinning it.  I got some mags to do first and my boys room to practice on.  Its been about 15 years since i did any air brush work.

I had never even held an airbrush before, or since for that matter.   I'm sure with a little practice, you will be back in the swing of things.

Good luck!!  Be sure to post pics when you are done.

Badger patriot 105.  I think I paid $89 from Amazon.  It's a double action gravity feed.
