Trial and error if you want a perfect color match.

IMHO perfect color matching is for interior designers, not weapons.

It makes whatever you spray it on nimble and energetic.

That is good.

Trial and error is best.  If you are using spray paint is temp anyway.  I would coat the whole thing, to include the FDE parts.  They will show the wear less.  I would also check the refinishing section, if anyone has a color match it is them.

I say do it right. You can buy a cheap Duracoat Kit with everything you need for $100.

Here's the link: http://www.lauerweaponry.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=DCECK1&storeid=1&image=ezcamokit.gif

It's a blast and really easy.

I like the Rhodesian Camo pattern and colors personally.... but it's all subjective.

Perhaps you would get more help in the Refinishing Forum.

I'll move it for you.

If you set that outside on the ground it would look like half of a Pmag.

Does anyone know the durability of spray paint vs. duracoat?

Like on a Moh's hardness scale or something? No. Duracoat is significantly more durable, but could still conceivably be chipped/gouged/whatever. The difference is, with spray paint, you won't care when it happens.

So it seems that duracoat is more durable. But considering spray paint is much cheaper, it seems like its would be significantly cheaper/easier to touch the gun back up.

thoughts?

I painted one of my AR's W/ krylon and I don't worry about the paint chip's , Hell I think it look's better being rubbed off on the edge's and scuffed up. That is what I built that one for.
