Hey all,
I'm about to set my own home workshop to paint my firearms and I wondered some points and needed to ask you. First of all the finish would be DuraCoat. -Can I trust this products durability on an average hunting or practice shooting use? -Is it easy to remove? -Does it fill the factory serial and codes? Thanks for your comments already. Regards, TT |

I've used it on several firearms and have found it to be very durable as long as it was #1 applied correctly, #2 the surface was properly prepped.
It is not very easy to remove, it is very chemical resistance in my experience, which is a good thing in my opinion. It will not completely fill in the serial numbers, they are still plenty readable after a proper application. Duracoat gets applied in very thin layers and does not fill very well. Put it to you this way, I can generally paint an entire stock with 2-3 tablespoons. |

It is very resistant to the elements and is as durable as parkerizing. Just like blueing, parkerizing, or plating, it can wear off from holster use, sling use, or throwing it down a driveway.
Duracoat can be removed with epoxy remover. The gun will look terrible afterwards. Gunkote is another spray-on finish that does not come off solvents. It will not fill deep engraving, stamping, or rollmarks. It can cover certain laser-etching and light electropencil marks. |

Yup, pretty much what I'd have to say.
I have yet found anything to remove cured DuraCoat easily. I'm about ready to try an industrial stripper, but I'm having my doubts. But, the need to remove it should come on a rare basis if the surface it prepped right and it's sprayed correctly. If it's a mind change, charge appropriately to prevent it from happening. |
