I plan on refinishing a slide with gun kote and baking in toaster oven.  However, the toaster oven isnt tall enough to hang the slide inside.  Is it ok to set the slide on the wire rack for baking or will this affect the final finish?

Thanks,

if you're careful, you can probably get away with it.......however, anywhere the slide is touching the wire, you'll get an indentation in the finish.

what you might want to do is rig up a stand from a wire coat hangar so nothing but the inside is in contact with the rack.  (that's what I do)

Thanks, I did it with no problem.  The slide rails have a few tiny spots where it's indented but you have to look hard to see them.

I use a toaster oven for baking Gun-Kote also.  I use a couple of S shaped hooks made from coat hager wire.  Its pretty easy to hook one under the edge of the muzzle side, and the other in the firing pin hole.  There is a steel guard in the top of my oven, protecting the element.

So far it has been strong enough to support the various slides and frames that I have baked.

I have just laid some small parts in the tray, just like they were a slice of pizza.  As noted, that can leave a small mark.  I try and hang everything if I can.

You may still get small marks, but you have more control over where they are going to be.
