Does anyone know what colors I need to match Multicam?  I have called Lauer’s.  They sent me a catalog but no color samples.  They won’t even offer a suggestion.  I called three times and e-mailed twice.  They have never answered an e-mail.  How close can a catalog be to the real color?

Not close at all according to most people who have tried to match a color from the DC catalog.  There used to be a thread where someone listed the colors that were close.

I've started Duracoating my AR-10 mags.  I'm just painting the tops of them red so I can find them after I camo them.  The red will be in the mag well so it can't be seen while in the rifle.  It is giving me a little experience with the paint.

I'm not sure how to reference these to DC colors, but MilitaryMorons says:

MultiCam is comprised of six colours, (note that I'm using names that I'm most familiar with to describe the colours and that may not be entirely accurate)- a dark chocolate brown, a medium/flat earth brown, MJK khaki/green, medium green, desert pink, and a light grey (the base fabric natural colour). What makes it difficult to describe (and see) is that some of these colours are gradiated and fade into each other in some places. Another feature of MultiCam is that is does not consist of a uniformly tight pattern that repeats itself freqently

Well if you're really feeling like splurgin you can give Dynamic Finishes a call or check out their website.  They have Multicam water transfer.  I got a quote and I stopped them before they even go to the end of my list....pricey!!!

Military Morons did a review on it and Crye and DF are working together as it is the true MC finish.

$300 for an AR...$60 for an Aimpoint...$XX for shipping....$XX for light....$XX for so on...

Get my point?

Plus they said it would take 5-7 weeks IIRC b/c they would have to take it to their gunsmith to break it down...then dip it...etc etc then ship it back.

Maybe if I had the money and didn't need anything else but seriously...woah!

Good luck finding the right colors.  Your best bet is gonna be trial and error.  I'd recommend buying a square yard of MC fabric from Crye (I think it cost $8 or so) and then start matching.

Well, when I asked about having a refinisher replicate a Multicam pattern for my AR with accessories, it was like $850!!

I've been meaning to talk with the DF guys, because one of my items is an M203.  It just wouldn't look right to have my MRP done in MC without the M203 being done too.

I'd love to just have a 203

I think I've heard the company/person who is charging $850....

BTW I may have them do my 870 or G17 but I simply can't spend that much when I could get another optic or upper for that price...and hell the $850 price...I'd throw in another 4-500 and have a damn nice XCR...

not sure what the acronym stands for but it's commonly used when referring to Eagle's khaki color (MJK Khaki)

My guess would be Medium J_ _ _ _ _ Khaki

Dunno what the J stands for.

So your saying a Jeep is probably out of the question minus a Powerball winning ticket?

I don't even know if a Powerball ticket will get it done.  I had asked about having a few non-firearm related items done in MC by DF, each piece roughly the size of a 30 round AR mag.  They said it would be $100 each!  Basically said they had no interest in doing the item, so this was their way of saying "Frak off."  I was rather disappointed by that response myself.

Still, they are the game in town at the moment for a genuine pattern.  I'll probably still have a rifle sent off to be done at some point....

I was checking the Crye site today to see if the fabric for my bikini top and tire cover was in stock and noticed that they have now certified 2 places to do the process.  So there is more than one game in town.

That's Fiance, as in future wife, not Finance, as source of income!  Generally for guys, "Fiance" unit and "Finance" unit are rarely the same entity.....

It was a joke for goodness sake.  If you were overseas, during the cold war, and didnt like local strange, there was a real good possibility that you could have a Fiance Unit, assigned to the Finance Unit, since there aint no womenz assigned to the Infantry.

Wondering how Duracoat holds up agains a high wear area.  When I painted the tops of my magazines red, I waited the recommended cure time.  Upon the first insertion into the rifle all of the magazines had a chip in the paint.  I gave each magazine two coats.  I should mention that the black oxide did not hold up at this point on the magazine.  It maybe that because there was no oxide on that point the Duracoat didn't have a good substrate.

I think there are a lot of companies who have not gone to finishing magazines yet simply b/c the coating doesn't hold up.  Did you blast your mags before painting them?

Duracoat will wear off "high traffic areas" like the bottom of the magwell or where the ejection port cover strikes the receiver. However it is tougher than dip coatings, although I guess Crye claims their dip coatings are magically tougher than the rest.
