| I’m considering using the Aerosol can GunKote from Brownells. Now I don’t want to bake this stuff in my house hold oven or my BBQ, which the thought did enter my mind. Have you guys ever used alternative methods to bake on the finish? I was thinking along the lines of some type of metal container I could place on top of my BBQ to bake the parts in, but don’t know exactly what type of container. Any ideas? |
Temperature is semi critical with this stuff,I would just wait until mama went shopping, open some windows and bake it in your kitchen oven!It really does not stink that bad. I also have a little camp oven I bought at walmart for about $50 that works well for small parts. It is too small for a barreled action though.

| It's not just Frau Quib that objects to baking gun parts in the oven, I don't care for it either. I was thinking maybe two large disposable aluminum baking pans one flipped on top of the other, then place this on top of the BBQ. What's the time/temp combination I'm looking at 1hr @ 300 deg. ? |
| You got it 1 [email protected] aluminum pans may work if you can control the heat.I saw plans somewhere for a oven ,useing a school locker and a hotplate, along with a thermometer. |

Which gives me an exuse to bump my thread for more ideas. Check out the link in this thread for that oven. ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=19&t=202969 |
Guess I'm not alone in my quest for an oven! I'd just hate to use our home oven, next thing you know Frau Quibs Schweinebraten tastes like paint!

Spray your items, then wait until the next night to drop them in the oven. The more dry they are, the less smell you will have. I don't see anyway you will be able to keep a valid or constant temperature with your BBQ idea. I think you could cure the finish, but I don't think you could do it properly. Remember, you are supposed to be checking your oven with a thermometer to verify the temp settings are correct, and modifying your settings if they aren't correct. Its not uncommon for an oven to be off by 50 degrees or more, and yes, that will affect the finish. |
