I've got a new bolt gun back from the gunsmith and I've been thinking about the right brand and color of finish. Based on my research, I've decided on Cerakote. The color I would like is "flat dark earth" or whatever CeraKote has closest to that color. A couple questions: 1). Who are the recommended businesses that do CeraKote coating? (I will not do the work myself on a multi-thousand dollar gun.) 2). Does CeraKote have "flat dark earth"? If not, what is closest to that color? Many thanks! |
Are you talking Cerakote, or Dura Coat, two different products from different companies. Cerakote instructions have it baked at a higher temperature and for a longer period than regular gunkote. Check out the picture thread for my recent project using cerakote (P239). Durring assembly, I slipped and also whacked it with a screwdriver and hammer with no effect to the finish. It's good stuff. It can also be mixed with the KG gunkote product. |

Thanks for the suggestions. There is also L.T.M. Refinishing. Note: I will not refinish this rifle myself. It is too expensive a piece for me to do a D.I.Y. job on it. . . . My preference of the two is DuraCoat, but the color I like most is flat dark earth, a GunKote finish. I'll probably go with FDE. |
