Turned on my nv last night.  Right tube had a defect looked like a figure 8 stretched out into an L shape.  Spiderweb looking not black lines.  Thought it was on one of the lenses but no.  It took up about 1/3 of the image.  I said well crap still going to hunt.  After about 15min it slowly faded away.  They have been stored properly.  What was it guys?   I'm betting ghosts in the machine.

On some tubes when you look at bright lights it depletes the photocathode and leaves lines where you scanned over the light. As you found out it goes away. Nothing to be concerned about. Avoid looking at bright objects as much as possible. Sometimes it is also caused by the phosphor screen and is called phosphor persistence.

Again nothing to worry about and is quite normal

There was a guy driving a road compactor ar 11:30.  I had to glance it that area and the thing was throwing off crazy light.  Thanks Dino

My PVS14 does this with distant bright light sources such as property lights or passing vehicle head lights

Goes away in just a minute or two

My two ITT tubes do this when powered up, after some minutes they both need substantially more light to do it. Initially a cigarette in some distance is plenty enough.

My 14 does that when I take them outside from inside. Could it be condensation?
