Looking to move away from my pvs14 and build some sentinels.

I'm going for a build now and finish later type of thing by installing the tube from my current pvs14
and then hunting down a different close in spec tube later.  My only question is this.

Do sentinels need both tubes installed to work?

They will run with a single tube.

If this is the route you are going, it would make more sense to go with a MOD-3, so you don't have half the system sitting in front of your eye blocking your unaided eye. With the mod 3 you can pull off one of the pods and either run 1 on a bridge, or in a monocular adapter. The mod3 housing is also about 600 cheaper. You can send your PVS-14 off, have it converted now, and then sell your remaining pvs-14 housing parts and put that towards completing the other side.

The best solution is simply to hold off and not buy anything else until you're ready for the full kit though. You aren't going to gain anything from going into an incomplete bino build unless you absolutely need to run an anvis mount (sentinel).

One of the main reasons for going with sentinels is because I can get the housings w/optics for under $1800.00.

The mod-3 is nice but I prefer the sentinel and ability to accept external battery packs if needed etc.

I know there is a guy that has made this work with mod-3's, but not something I can just buy.

Honestly, if the price the Sentinel was the same price as the MOD-3, I also would have went with Sentinels. Just in case the manufacturers are reading the forums.

Chris Adams at AI has been awesome to work with in the past. I've bought quite a bit of gear from him. I swear I'll add a sentinel to my collection at some point.

The whole hot swap pods of the MOD-3 is a huge plus though. If the MOD-3 had a banana mount, I'd be a happy camper. My DIY battery pack solution is workable, but it is far from optimal. Optimal would be power through the mount as well as the device. :-)
