Can you use this as a IR aiming laser, I'm confused. I have a Dbal but looking for a cheaper backup for pistol.

I think it is a visible laser and IR illuminator.  Can still use it to aim I guess, but it may appear bright.  Might want to get one of the screw in IR filters.

No, it is an IR and Vis illuminator, no laser for aiming. It can be confusing with sellers on ebay unscrupulously claiming they are aiming devices, rather than illumination devices.

Streamlight does make an IR aiming device, the TLR-2, either with a vis light and IR laser or IR light and IR laser along with red and green laser versions.

This. I had one but sold it. It wasn't worth the money IMHO. As stated, Streamlight does make an IR laser model though.

I have the one with white light and IR laser. I've only used it a couple times so far, but I like it so far. The housing is the same as any TLR-1 or TLR-2, my only concern is the little lever that switches between light/off/laser feels lightweight but I've had no issues so far. The light and laser output look good to me, but I've only compared it to Crimson Trace and Lasermax type IR lasers. Any questions in particular?  I'll try to get a laser pic if you want one.

what is difference in x400V-A-IR and X400V-B-IR?  These are the ones with white/IR led and IR laser,,,but the A and B? Some on ebay calling them rechargeable.

They don't have inbuilt batteries as far as I know. You put two 123's in them.

I want to say B revision is brighter, and has a firmware (?) revision to make them more robust.

The tlr2 irw has an ir illuminator and laser combo. Can either light on/laser on/or both with reduce laser brightness.

Its a nice piece if its all you want, comes with adapters for 1913 rails and pistol rails so its very versatile. I had it on a carbine with rail past the fsb and it is low enough to leave permanently and is pretty light.

The tlr2 irw I have didnt shift noticably taking off and on. I sighted during the afternoon with a lead sled and pvs7's with the daytime cap on.......easy peasy

Zeroing isn't hard with a rest, I haven't needed to take it off yet so I can't comment on the return to zero. Btw, DSG Arms shows them for $196 after you log in, that's hard to argue with.

why would they need firmware?

No idea, all I know is that my A model failed for no determinable reason, SF says it is common and they they have a 6 to 8 week backlog on the repairs. I guess it has to do with the mode selector being chip driven rather than a real switch.

Does this really work? My local range is indoors, and has pretty crappy lighting. If so, that really pushes me towards getting a TLR2 IR or DBAL I2.

In the first pic the TLR-2 laser is on the neighbor's barn a little over 200 yards away, in the second it's on a phone pole at roughly 50.  This is my first attempt at night pics and I was using my phone, in person the dot is bright and eye catching.

Edit- the pics look grainy with a lot of laser bloom after uploading to photobucket, at least on my phone. It doesn't look like that in real life.

Red c, just to make sure i'm thinking about this right. That laser pic is for the IR laser not a vis laser?  I was about to buy a surefire and then it came out that the things were failing so not I am looking at this.

Right, this one is the TLR-2 IRW with white light and IR laser. It's NOT the TLR-VIR talked about earlier in the thread, the IR laser on that is an illuminator, not a sight. It's this one:

https://dsgarms.com/stl69165

There is another model with IR illuminator and laser.

I zero mine at 100, same as the scope.
