Well, after about six months, I got my first rig up and running. Not sure what I'm gonna use for a lanyard yet, probably just 5-50. Have about $1500 in it, helmet and mounts included. Second hand MX10160C and housing off the EE.

Messy corner of the closet pic. Dark with flash:

Only light is from cracks of the door.

IR

In the end, I think I have a good little setup.

Im surprised you were able to find a tube with no blemishes for that price, its a very nice setup.

Just my two cents, if youre new to NV you might want to attach the PVS-14 to the helmet with some cord, i know i accidentally knocked mine off a few times when i was first playing around with mine, it takes awhile to realize which buttons and levers are to adjust the unit and which are to take it off, all very confusing in the dark

You can find a lot of deals on the EE, just keeps your eyes out for them. :-)

You could also see if someone can swap you a single AA 6015 battery housing and shave some weight, since you won't be using the gain knob, or just live with the extra weight, which isn't all that much extra. I just hate non-functional knobs. Lol.

Now you need a budget ir laser and illuminator. Good score and nice setup. You probably won't even notice those small blems during normal use.

Yessir! I'm keeping my eye out for a LAM. I'm gonna keep the 14 housing for now. The gain knob doesn't bother me at all, and I'm always looking out for tubes...

Edit: in reference to the deals, I believe the dude I bought this tube from still has some 10160A's on hand he's looking to unload for a reasonable price. All fairly new stuff too.

Not a buddy. Hes selling them in the EE yall. Just search "MX11060", or "11060".  Im sure he'd accept reasonable offers. I think he only has "A" models left.

I finally got the "lanyard" system set up, for now. Went with a "S" biner set up and rigged up some gutted 5-50 cord through the air vents for tie down points. Doesn't look horible, to me, and its completely secure. Ill get pics in the AM.

Edit: pix
