A friend of mine got me to take a look at a tube he bought earlier this year.  It's a year 2000 Litton mx10160 tube.  He turned the gain pot up half a turn and got some edge glow. I took a look and it did have a small section of the edge glowing.  The rest of the image was fine and the tube performs very well.  I suggested turning the gain back down to the factory setting and it went away but we are wondering what this kind of edge glow means, if it means there is a problem or if the tube is nearing the end of its life?  It's an otherwise very nice tube for the age and at factory settings there are no problems.  I have a Litton tube of my own that's a year older but I don't want to adjust my pots to see if it does the same thing as I like it how it is and it still has its silicone sealant in, so I thought I'd ask here instead.

Probably related to emission points outside of the image area. If you turn it down and it goes away, the tube is probably fine -
