I have a buddy here at work that has a night vision scope and he doesn't know much about it and neither do I. Looking for any info I can gather. My google-foo is inop today. Here's some pics.

It is a 3 staged Gen 1 cascade tubed scope (PN5). CJ7Hawk has a nice thread on Gen 1 cascade DIY builds. The tubes are very capable but rather big and heavy. For a cheap setup they are a worthy choice. Not up to modern standards but most only have a couple hundred invested in these type of scopes. Dollar for dollar I don't think they can be beat for a real budget scope.

That is an odd one. The oddest thing is the RPG-7 reticle (note the 2.7m range finder and grid, direct from an RPG-7 sight) paired with what looks like a commercial Russian scope. The knobs are marked in English and it's set up for a weaver base, which screams civilian. The designation appears to be PN5-D (as marked on the scope) but it's not the most recent import of Zrak PN5s (totally different scope). I would bet it's a single stage gen 1 scope that someone may have put a different reticle in for kicks?

It appears to have some "homemade" qualities to it but I still think it is a cascade tubed scope of rooskie origin. Possibly a 2 stage Gen 1.

Thanks for all the good info. Based off of what was shared about the history of this scope (not going to share here), this all makes sense. Anyone have an idea about a possible price? My buddy is curious if he ever wants to sell it and I don't want to share bad info. Thanks.

They are worth a few hundred bucks at best. Really depends on tube condition. Tube life for these scopes are about 1000 hours. Yours has some dents and dings but the tube looks decent. I would value at a couple hundred bucks.
