Hey all, first off I don't do reviews often... so be gentle
Any way, I recently had Rich over at Night Vision To Go convert my old AN/AVS-9 system over to the new AB Night Vision MOD-3 housing. I decided to switch from the ANVIS objectIves to standard PVS14 objectives to avoid the conversion required to fit the housings. I did however keep my ocular lenses. First impressions: I was immediately impressed with the design and overall "feel" of the unit as soon as I picked them up. They definitely feel a little heavier than my ANVIS but I feel very confident running around the AZ desert like a mad man with them. I grabbed a CR123A battery and powered them up. Everything was perfect. The IP adjustments are easy to use and everything locks up tight. Build Quality: The overall quality feels very nice but it's not perfect. You can see a few machining marks in the photos but overall I'm extremely happy with the craftsmanship of the unit. Ease of use: The MOD-3 is just plain simple to use. It truly is plug and play. The latches holding the tube pods in are easy to use and lock up very tight. Mount Compatibility: Augee did an excellent job showing different mounts and how they work with the MOD3 system so there really isn't much to say. The TATM is a SOB to take off if you have big sausage fingers like me . Also I rigged up an old Rhino mount with the TATM dovetail and it sits way too low for my Team Wendy Ballistic. The AKA2 mount works perfectly with the MOD3 and is very easy to use and remove.
Augee's MOD3 Thread: Click Here We'll that's basically all I've got so far. I'm super happy with the system and I highly recommend considering the MOD-3 if you're thinking binos even if you can never see yourself using the monocular pods and have Rich at NV2GO do the install. His turn around time and level of customer service can not be beat.
More photos including the monocular pods coming soon Let me know if anyone needs any more photos of anything else. |

You're certainly not going to worry about accidental release with the TATM.
What/how much counterweight are you using with yours? ~Augee Quoted:

What/how much counterweight are you using with yours? ~Augee It's a Maxpedition CW. I just got it off the EE this week! I have all the weights and 8 CR123As in there and it feels awesome. |

What/how much counterweight are you using with yours? ~Augee I have 24oz of counterweight on mine. Which is what the manual gain version weighs. I think it comes out to like 24.5 with battery. |
As our ranks swell, I think we're going to need an "Official MOD-3 Picture and Discussion" Thread.
I need to weigh my counterweight and see what it's weighing - I'm thinking about re-doing my counterweight/strobe setup, more because I like tinkering than there being anything specifically wrong with it. ~Augee |
