Any idea on what a MX10160  Gen3 late Omni II contract tube that came out of a set of aviation googles might be worth?  Tube is pretty clean with a few specs here and there.

I personally would not pay more than $200 - $300 for an Omni II tube. The specs on Omni II are pretty low, and most modern Gen 2+ would be an upgrade.

You will get more value selling that tube as part of a complete system.

Spend some time in the EE here and put together a budget housing. If you are careful and patient you can have a complete housing together for under $450.

Put that tube inside of it and such an "early gen-3" would sell quickly at the $900-1200 price point.

As said above people looking to buy naked MX10160 tubes will only be willing to pay bottom of the barrel prices, even moreso for an omni II. Put that unit into a housing and the budget minded plug-and-play guys will be tripping over one another to buy at a thousand bucks.

Ok.  Might just have to throw it on Ebay to see what its worth. For 200, I think id just keep it as a back up.  I upgraded to Omni IV and I can't tell a huge difference.  I've got a gen2+ 845 and this Omni II is far better for light gathering resolution is fairly close.  Thanks.

just keep in mind... on ebay you have to cover shipping, 10% in fees, and people can always kill it and return it up to 45 days later. I also would put it into a budget housing and sell it cheap on the EE. You'll likely make out better on the deal in the end. You will have little to no problem selling a PVS-14 with an omni II tube for $1200.

Ok. I will keep an eye out for a housing to put it in. Thanks again.

Yeah, its funny how when I tell people that they don't believe me much when I say that... I'll certainly give you 250 for it tho...

Omni IV is when tubes got good. Besides autogating advances are minimal. Omni IV is as good as many need . I used these tubes all the time with very good results. I have all the Gucci tubes but Omni IV does me a great job for my needs.

if there is not too much between the tube you have and the omni4 then perhaps your old tube is an omni3 tube - i have had some of these and they can be very good but they have the dark green p20 phosphor screen that some dont like , apart from that they are only slightly less good in s/n and sensitivity in darker conditions , i would say there is nothing much between them in resolution when i have compared them . i have not had an omni 2 tube but by the listed specs for them i think they will be much worse than the omni4 you got

Oddly enough, for extended viewing, i think the old phosphor is much easier on the eyes.

I would guess that it is 1990 production and really close to Omni III but contract numbers say Omni II I think.  Being that it is from a pair of aviation googles probably make it a little better yet I suppose.

I would kill to get a pair of ANVIS goggles with a set of av-spec OMNI IV tubes on the cheap. Is my OMNI VII AN/PVS-14 better? Yeah, but if I had to choose, I'd probably pick the aviation spec OMNI IV-tubed goggles.

You mean, the P20 rabid green? I kinda got used to the P43 amberish green and I think I like it better... but then again, I no longer have anything with P20 anymore...

The cad on that tube says 33rd week of 1991 is when it was made. Where did you get 1990? Looks omni 3 to me. Probably why the performance is so good. It just had to meet minimum omni 2 specs per the contract, but it very well could have been built as a full omni 3 contract tube, i think.

Someone more knowledgeable can probably chime in, but given the cad date, i think that is an omni 3 tube. I'd go about 300-350 on it, so you're still better off building a pvs-14 or mum with it and selling it for 1200-1300.
