A friend of mine just got a NV unit and I tried to ID the tube but my skills only go so far. Tube reads "ITT 273348-31 S/N 124100   293" elsewhere I saw dates of 2011 so I assume it was made around then, but I was surprised to not see a sticker on the tube.

a quick google search yielded:

Sounds like an Omni VII Tube with the sticker removed.

Looks like a 11769 type of tube, all black.
Markings on the top of the tube are
ITT
273348-31
DC1020

If you can hear a whine, its autogated.
If it has a pigtail and adjustable gain, it is a MX-11769.

ITT autogated Pinnacle. Roughly Omni VII performance but being this is a civvy tube specs would determine this. Civvy tubes are not Omni anything. Civvy tubes commonly have no "stickers". If you want stickers the Chinese make some good forgery's

I don't think he cares about stickers but he gave it to me to freshen up a little and asked me what it had for a tube....ID plate stickers are what I usually see and are a heck of a lot easier for me to understand. Looks to be in good shape though, is it worth the $2k he spent on it? What are the chances its a Milspec tube with the ID plate ripped off, vs being a civvy tube?

I would prefer it to be a civvy tube than a milspec tube with no sticker. People remove stickers for a reason, and it generally isn't a good reason.

Meh, when they rip the stickers off milspec tubes the only way I can tell is the power supply numbers and sometimes serial numbers. Enjoy your tube. I could research it further but I don't see the need. Most folks like to keep milspec stickers on because they command a higher price in the used market. Not really relevant now when most tubes come with data sheets but back in the day milspec tubes were coveted because of known specs.

2K ? Yeah, that sounds fair.

Duly noted. To my knowledge he didnt get a spec sheet with the unit but it looks nice. And glad the price is within reason because I may or may not have had something to do with talking him into buying it
