I recently purchased a used PVS-7d Gen 3 for a decent price, but the lock ring is glued down so tight I can't adjust the focus for my eyes. Everything is just a little too blurry.

Any one have any tricks for removing a stuck lock ring?

I'm thinking of changing the objective housing if I can't get it loose. Are there any directions online that would walk me through it?

TIA

Sometimes the objective lock rings are glued by people who don't understand what they are doing. Have you removed the grub screw ? There is a TINY locking grub screw that keeps the ring from twisting. If it is indeed glued in place carefully cutting it off may be your only option. It is the last option I use. Depending on the type of glue used I have had to replace the entire objective housing. Use a magnifying glass and make sure any grub screws are removed.

The Allen key is very small (.035 I believe from memory).

For what it is worth my personal scopes use neither a grub screw or glue. The friction alone keeps it in place and if I need to adjust it I can reach up and do it by hand no tools required.

you could just change out the objective housing - that would fix the issue.

however, unsticking the lock ring is worth trying, since you're considering replacing it anyhow. a hair dryer to heat up the ring might also help. I'd pull the objective off first though.

I couldn't see a retention allen screw...even took out my old surgical loops to be sure I wasn't missing it.

Looks like someone used super glue on it. I can see some whitish colored glue at the edge of the lock ring.

I'm going to send it to TNVC and see if they can salvage the objective housing. I'm sure they have their 10,000 hours
of practice repairing these things and I'll likely muck it up if I try to force it off

Thanks for the advice.

I have an extra objective housing and lock ring (no lens though, just swap yours over) you can have if you want it. Send me a PM and I'll get it shipped your way!
