There have been a few references to the importance of IR beacons recently, so this seems a topic worth discussing.

I have been using Guardians for several years and really like the compact/lightweight package, as well as economical pricing allowing having a handful available.  The downsides are the non-standard battery coupled with the "twist some amount, but not too much" off switching.

I also have a Phoenix Jr. with Poseidon mount from SHOT a few years ago, but the lack of convenient on/off switching makes it substantially impractical for the vast majority of my applications.

Speaking of applications, helmet mounting is 100% of the time for me, and I have also dropped a few spares around as fixed position markers on occasion.

Anyway, is there tangible benefit for a non-mil application from options such as Neptune, VIP, Manta, MS2000, etc. based upon y'all's actual use of same?

If it's just hunting and casual use maybe a S&S v lite? The manta is wayyy brighter but you can easily see these

I use VIP's (I like em), very practical for my use...They are built incredibly strong and quite bright for Vis and IR aps in one unit.

Also great for Halloween time for marking the little ones too!

I've been using the phoenix jr's as well (velcro mounted), but i've been thinking about going to the manta for the quicker on/off capability.

I use the Phoenix Jrs, and like you, don't like the lack of on/off.  I've been looking at the Pelican clip-on beacon for strapping to the helmet.

Are the Phoenix Jrs really that much of a PITA? I have one en route...
