NV Crew,
I've spoken to TNVC reps on two separate occasions asking for advice on a PVS-14 system. The first pointed me to the Pinnacle and the 2nd pointed me to their own Omni VIII unit In your experience, how does the TNVC model hold up when compared to Pinnacle units or the like? |

There are a couple of differences between these two, it's a hard choice though.
The Night Enforcer (pinnacle) costs more, should in theory provide better extreme low light performance, but is also less suited for weapons mounting and handling recoil. If you know you will often be in very low/no light environments, like basements or searching indoors withno power, or using the unit for night time photography or astronomy where scintillation (white noise) is a problem... edge goes to the pinnacle unit. The L3 tubed omni VIII will be better suited for weapons mounting on non 5.56mm platforms, plus it costs less. If you intend to rifle mount the nvd regularly on non 5.56mm rifles, or very short SBR 5.56, edge to the L3 tube. Personally I have a pinnacle mx10160 in a '14 housing that I really like the performce of, but if I was going to start over and had a certain budget in mind, I would buy a cheaper non pinnacle unit like one of the tnvc monoculars and also budget for an IR laser and better helmet mount. |

I dunno if I am just reading this wrong, or maybe it's worded odd, but we only offer two versions of our tnv/pvs-14's. ITT Pinnacle tube and L3 OMNI VIII tube are the only options you get. L3 OMNI VIII version is the more expensive of the two. Quoted:

Eric, the TNVC site: TNV/PVS-14 L3 Gen3 OMNI VIII Gen3 Auto-gated Night Vision Monocular $3,158.00 — $3,627.00 PVS-14 Gen3 ITT Factory PINNACLE Autogated Night Enforcer ITTE-NEPVS-14-17 $3,395.00 — $3,814.00 EDIT I see the one you're referencing: TNV/PVS-14 ITT Gen3 PINNACLE Gen3 Auto-gated Night Vision Monocular $2,918.00 — $3,449.00 |

To clarify, rather then buying the first unit he linked as "pinnacle" - the Night Enforcer model, which is the most expensive model mentioned. I'd focus on getting a really comfortable helmet, a better nvg helmet arm than the USGI rhino mount, and a laser, and a more basic model of pvs14. |

Money isn't an issue; I'm wanting to get the best monocular for my mission - night time hoggin' from a helmet-mounted PVS using a 5.56 rifle with DBAL i2 |

If money is truly a non-issue,
Buy an Ops-core bump helmet or Team wendy helmet, a norotos INVG, Norotos dual-dovetail, wilcox NVG helmet lanyard and get the Night Enforcer NE-PVS14-17, the closest to a milspec pvs14 you can buy. Get the hand select option and you will have an incredible, top-shelf monocular, with a top shelf head-mounting interface. Also, if money is realllly a non issue, get the DBAL D2 instead of the I2, you get a kickass IR illuminator in a sleek package. And if money is really, really, really a non-issue, don't forget your thermal handheld for extended range detection. |

I'm getting the Ops Core Jump helmet (maybe what you referred to as Bump), already have the i2 DBAL as it's lower profile and also has a better throw unit in the Surefire m952V light (than the D2 illuminator). Also getting the Wilcox L4 mount and was finalizing which pvs-14 I want for my uses. The Night Enforcer is the 1st monocular linked in my first post. |

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan. Fyi the D2 unit has 600mW of IR light, the surefire m952V has only 120mW of IR light, the D2 has 5x the illumination. The 952v still has a pretty useful amount of IR light thrown, plus they are a comparative bargain. Yeah, except the PVS models are throwing me off. I think the L3 is a given if I'm mounting it... I thought the D2's output was more spill than throw? Output that spills everywhere isn't as useful to me in an open field. |
