update: all i can say is Vic at TNVC is the man!

hi guys,

recieved my second OPS-Core FAST shell the other today from TNVC and ran into some issues and was hoping to pick your guys brains alittle.  ill start with some background.

like i mentioned, i have 2 ops core helmets(molded shroud-the shell one).  i bought one about 1 month ago, and the second about 1 week ago-needed a bigger size. anyways, i currently have a USGI rhino mount/j-arm as well as the norotos AKA2 mount with the norotos dovetail adapter.

the rhino and the AKA2 mount up very tight/solid in the older of the helmets-basically no movement or wobble at all.  the rhino is also rock solid in the new helmet, but for some reason, the AKA2 is very loose and can move about 1/8-1/4(guess) in the new helmet.
i called TNVC to see what they could come up with(not sure who i spoke with, but he was very friendly and really went into detail as to what he thought-the first guy i talked said he was the helmet expert)  anyways, based on what i told him, his though was that the mount(specifically the back plate) must be to blame, and recommened i call norotos, as i bought the AKA2 second hand, not from TNVC(a mistake i see now)  the used AKA2 did look used, but everything works fine and locks up tight in the older helmet.  he also said i could send the ops-core in if i wanted to and they would run some mounts through it to see what up.

so i called norotos, and they to were very friendly, and sounded very willing to help.  they took my info, the problems, and said they would get back to me, which they havent yet(didnt expect them to, it was late in the day)

so as of right now, im kinda in limbo, waiting for norotos to get back to me(going to wait to hear from them before i send the helmet back to TNVC), and in the mean time, figured i would see what you guys have to say.  i planned on bringing some calipers home to take measurments, but of course i forgot them.  so for now, based off the naked eye, everything looks for the most part the same-the shrouds, and the backing plates of the mounts.  they way both mounts fit like a rock into the older helmet, makes me think the new one is just a bit out of spec-but the rhino mount fits good in the new one, so im at a loss there.

and just to be clear, this is not a bashing TNVC, or norotos in anyway, shape or form-ive been extremly happy with both and have no reason for that to change-both great companys, with great people.  this is strickly "i wondering what it could be" with the confidence that the needed people will make it right

thanks

I'm having a similar problem with the VAS shroud on a ballistic helmet but good lock up with bump helmet using the Norotos INVG arm. I opted to work directly with TNVC because when I did take the initial approach to go through Norotos I was told it was tolerances I had to accept, when I went through ops-core  they said they tolerance line but were willing to see the video and pictures I had to demonstrate the difference. Their response was "is the INVG approved for the VAS shroud?" and when I said yes, I never heard back from them again.

Needless to say TNVC will always have my direct business when it comes to NV. They didn't leave me hanging with $1600 worth of loose stuff. (still waiting for it to return but they are working on it).

i remeber seeing your vids, mine is very similar(amount of movement) but instead of the side to side movement, mine is a up and down(or in and out i guess)  i should have just bitten the bullet and ordered a new AKA2 from TNVC, but i tried to save where i could, lesson learned.

still hoping norotos will come through, but worst case i have to buy a new one, and it will be from TNVC(not a bad thing at all!)

well going on 2 days, and norotos still hasnt called back... really want the AKA2 mount to work, its a great mount, might just have to break down and buy a new one from TNVC... or maybe get the INVG

i really like the AKA2 mount paired with their dual dovetail, but kinda turned off the way things are going.  i understand i bought the mount second hand, and might not get any kind of warrantee, but they could at least tell me that right from the get go-i was looking for a " well you can send it in and well repair it for a fee" or send it in and well take care of it"  or at least something...not "will call you back"

kinda thinking about trying a wilcox mount, the L4 G24 mount paired with a wilcox J-arm.  anyone use one of these for a pvs-14/nmv-2aa?

and just wondering, but TNVC, if you see this, do you guys have any issues with norotos and warrantee claims/issues?

This is kind of a crappy response since I'm using my phone but could you possibly try a new plate purchased?

Maybe TNVC can confirm if this would swap out off your mount.  That would be a cheaper attempt at a solution then getting a whole new mount.

when i spoke with TNVC, they brought this idea up, but recommended i try norotos first.  i might have to look into that if i dont get a response from norotos soon
