Does anyone know where I can obtain a gain pot for the PVS 14? The stock part is a PRV6W- 200k 5% pot. The manufacturer's part number is PRV6SAABGXB25204JA. The only sources I found for it had a minimum order of 50 units <definitely don't need that many. If OEM is out of the question, what would be a suitable replacement part without spending $200 on a complete battery housing?
Thanks, Michael |

Thanks, Michael Sorry about the limited help this response will be, but in the past I've found many items in products like the PVS-14 are custom and/or milspec and cannot be ordered individually as a normal part - however there are usually similar parts and often they are pretty cheap - a good example is the switch. The Pull-IR mechanism makes it very expensive, but without that you can buy the same model for $20 from the same manufacturer. Maybe that won't be the case with the pot ( hopefully! ) - since a quick google of the part number suggests the part you're asking for is about $7. Seems to go to 1 unit... But otherwise Farnell Electronics is usually a good source of those kinds of parts, as they will sell individual parts that, while expensive, are cheaper than anywhere else. They will mail to you also. They seem to sell Vishay also, so while I can't search for that part in their database, you may find that there's another code for the "commercial" version of that part or perhaps even the same one. http://farnell.com or from the australian site ( since I can't access their US site ) I hope this helps :) Regards David Edit: OK, I see the problem - Here's the datasheet for your part to help you locate it - Edit 2: Further checking - http://export.farnell.com/vishay-sfernice/prv6saabjyb25104ka/potentiometer-100k/dp/8795738 100K max on available PRV6 items. I think you may find it challenging to locate one of these - perhaps look at what you can get from someone who makes the replacement $200 parts? They might sell you just a pot. You can get non-milspec parts in 200K with PCB tags, would work but not be pretty or waterproof... Sorry if that doesn't help much. Regards David |

See people selling old dual battery housing on eBay for next to nothing because folks don't want them. I buy a few here and there to use for parts. I can also turn a dual battery into a single CR123 housing relatively cheaply. Keep your eyes peeled for those cheap dual battery lowers and snag up one for parts.
You can never have to many parts as most places want you to but the whole lower when you only need a gain pot. I get most of my parts salvaging broken scopes that sell cheaply. Saw a dual battery lower go for 30 bucks two weeks ago. I would have bought it but I got plenty already. Just another avenue for you to keep in mind. |
