Ok guys, I'm starting to get the itch on one of these. I know the 25mm tube can be an issue but what if the "used" unit came with a good tube, whats my time frame looking like? Is it a decent scope? Whats a reasonable price on a good used one?
Thanks |
| They are workhorses, battle proven. A bit heavy but still a great scope. The tubes are still around for 5-700 and parts can be found fairly easy if you know where to look. It does weigh 4 pounds, so a stalking scope it ain't. Lots of folks on the forum still like the pvs4. |

Whats a reasonable price on a good used one? Thanks As the others have said the PVS-4 is a battle proven design and is tough as nails. Nobody can really challenge that. I assume you are asking how long the tube will last. I would say 2500 to 5000 hours of night use. This is a lot of time for a rifle scope as most don't scan with them. They use a spotter and only turn the scope on to ID the target and take the shot. I have these tubes that are 25 years old and still going strong. Tube longevity has a lot to do with how well the previous owner treated it. Nobody really knows in a used tube. Very robust tubes and as Brent said you can still find them NOS at some surplus dealers. If you want a plug and play scope with a warranty the M-845 is a very robust unit as well. These two scopes are the best bang for the buck in the night vision rifle scope arena. Both are robust and stood the test of time. You would not go wrong with either. |
