Being new to Night Vision and researching what device to purchase....looking at PVS14s... I was wondering if there is anything other than or addition to the Image intensifier tube that determines the quality of the image when looking through the unit.  All the units I have been looking at have ITT pinnacle tubes in them and auto gated, some having a  s/n in the 28-30 range w/ 64-72lp etc  But I am finding these units have similar tubes but are coming in anywere from 2900 up to 3600. Most have similar hardware that accompany the unit and come with 5 year warranties So I was wondering if there was anything else like the glass or power supplies or switches, etc that make certain devices cost more/ or perform better or is the image intensifier tube the only thing that matters most? Thanks in Advance

Tube's are the costly parts, pretty much all the accessories that come in the bag are beginners toy's  you will soon dump them for the more expensive & more comfortable options

Housings are all the same, The tube and service is what sets then apart.

The question anticipates the issue - The housings make a difference too. Factors such as lens aberation, petzval radius curvature matching, relative aperture, transmission number and internal aperture all make a difference and recently you can add to that waterproofing and battery support as well as being set up correctly.

The tube is the biggest part of the equation, but the rest of the system varies in performance too.

There are also foreign-made PVS-14 housings as well as US made housings.

This is not to say one is better than another - differences may be slight or extreme, but they do exist.

Does anyone know if there are differences in the glass used for the lenses or if they are all relatively the same?

I think you'd have difficulty even identifying which lens was in a model unless you have knowledge of it firsthand.

All types of PVS-14 lenses are, to the best of my knowledge, exceptional lenses.

The best way to select a PVS-14 if by S/N ratio.
