Is there a FAQ or guide on what each spec means to a user?

I found a couple guides that give technical definitions of a couple specs.  The resolution I understand and while still fuzzy on the S/N have been using it along with the resolution to determine a tube quality.  But I'm wondering about the rest of the specs and what benefits a good rating on each would mean.  I'd like a good simple definition of what each spec means to a user, what a average value would be for current Gen 3 NV, and what an excellent value would be.

Which spec would be most important when using something like the 3x magnifier?

What spec is important? Your tube spec only tells part of the story. System spec is the most important....that is a system that has been tested fully integrated, including ALL of your optics at the end of the configuration.

If you're still fuzzy about SNR and still remember what it was like to use antenna TV (or radio for that matter), I can help you. Remember when a TV station is far away and you have a "fuzzy" picture? The fuzz is the noise (and we're not distinguishing what kind of noise here), your picture is the signal. If the station is closer, you will see just about all picture and little noise, hence higher SNR. A lot of other specs deal with different kind of noise and how to test it, but if SNR isn't understood, there's not much to go on.

Average? That's also relative. There are multiple grades of tubes. Beyond FOM1800, we don't export. FOM is a score of tested resolution x SNR. There are other important specs too, such as blemish, but that will include talking about zones in the specs, how big is the blemish, and how many blemishes.

I think I got it.  Thank you for the link, I'll go through it for some of the others.

That probably covers most of it.

Here's another one - an old document, but a good one. The official US government guide to performance parameters.

Good talking to you as well.  I appreciate all your help!

Thanks all for the links.  I'm sure the more you have to look through the more each makes sense as part of the whole.  Looking forward to being able to look through my own when I get back!
