Ok so I'm looking to upgrade my issue helmet NV setup. We run issued LWH's and all the plain Jane issued shit. We are starring an afghan pump in the face and will be running NV quite a bit, so I'm looking for some good upgrades that won't render me poor, that I can get before I head out. I see the 5-6 hundred dollar mounts and shit, but Damn! Would a Norotos universal mount, retention lanyard and counter weight be suffice? Or do I really NEED the arm? That seems to be the only other part of the system. Am I missing something here? Anyways, like I said school me up here because I'm tired if holding my bucket with one hand and doing everything else with the other.

You do have to have an arm. The Universal mount is what connects the arm to the helmet. The retention lanyard keeps the optic from hitting the dirt if the arm breaks, and the counter weight just helps balance things out. The arm is the expensive part, but it's unfortunately the most necessary part of the setup. You mentioned having the issued stuff though, so you should have a rhino arm, right?

Your issued stuff will be ok, but it's definitely a lot more comfortable going with a new mounting system. I found that the USGI stuff doesn't have any vertical adjustment, so I was always craning my neck at a weird angle. I picked up the Norotos INVG and now I can wear my PVS-14 comfortable indefinitely.

Roger, I do have the rhino arm. With that mounted to the Norotos plate would there be any real advantage or not really? Just had a kid, so if I can get by without spending a shit ton of money that'd be great.

Ok so I just re read the replies. I sounds like you all are saying that ill be able to run the issued arm with the norotos plate. Am I correct. I do plan on eventually picking up a better arm just not right now. Thanks.
