When I light up my infrared illuminator what does that look like to another persons night vision scope? Will it look like a great big "here I am" sign?

Thanks

I preach this in my training classes all the time....Folks get tired of hearing it!

"Using an IR illuminator/Laser with an adversary using a NOD (even Gen 1) will get you killed faster than using a white light,."   IR light discipline is a HUGE deal out there on a 2-way range.

Hope this helps.

If you're concerned about lighting up an area, use a separate IR illuminator... and I do mean separate.  NEVER use the ones on your goggles.

I'd suggest putting one of these out there.  You can watch how an enemy reacts to it if you want to know whether they're NVG-capable.  If they avoid the IR-lit area like the plague, you know you're up against guys with NODs.

Here's what it looks like to Gen2SHP NVGs (click for video):

Don't use your own IR... put some other IR out there and watch what your opponents do.  That illuminator only pulls 150mA... and those IR LEDs really turn the area into green-tinged daylight.

Thanks guys.

I'm new to Night Vision. So new that mine is still on the UPS truck somewhere in Mooseknuckle Kansas or somewhere like that.
