I don't know much about night vision to be honest. But I'm about to trade a couple things off for a gen 3 pinnacle pvs-14
My questions are as follows I know this is kinda like a question on how long till a barrel wears out. But. What kind of service life am I looking at with this unit? And also will muzzle flash kill the tube? And when I say this I mean from a 7.5" ar with a noveske pig. Unit will be head mounted if that matters |

Unit will be head mounted if that matters gen 3 pinnacle, has life of 10,000 hours...actual life will depend on how much light you expose to the tube. Is the tube new or used, if used then you have to trust the trader on how much use the tube has seen. and after 10k, they are usually still usable for a while, just not as much performance. Think of it this way, if you go camping at least 1 night a week, EVERY week, and stay up ALL night (7 hours) using the NV every trip, it would last you over 27 years before the tube would degrade (assuming you not staring into headlights or anything crazy). |

Unit will be head mounted if that matters Gen3 lifespan is on the order of 10k-15k hours. Pointing the unit at bright lights/scenes will decrease the lifespan faster than normal use, but realistically would just basically cause the unit to turn off if the light is too bright (probably not an issue with muzzle flash). |

That's much longer than I expected. I believe it is new. He was having the unit built for himself and I just had to have it so were striking up a deal.
Alright now one last question as I am very confused on how to mount it to a helmet Just to make this easy say I buy the aspec helmet from tnvc with the rhino mount and adapting plate. The only thing I need to make that mount work with the pvs14 is a j arm correct? Or am I missing something? |

While I like the TNVC crew, if you're planning on buying mil-spec parts, I wouldn't buy it from them. Plate is $110, rhino is $158, and j-arm is $89. Looking around you can find them used pretty easily cheap. I've seen mounting plates for $15 for example. However, since a PVS-14 is worth aprox $3K, I don't see the reason not to put cash into a better quality mount and swing arm like a Norotos or Wilcox. Depending on what helmet you end up with, if its got a 3 hole mount, the VAS shroud is a nice, and well priced mount. I would go to TNVC for that. |

There's a member on this board that sent me a mich plate and rhino mount for $50.00 shipped both were new in excellent shape. Send me a PM and I'll give you his name. Ill do that if the unit does not come with one. I am not entirely sure what is coming with the unit. You guys dont think firing this off will hurt the tube will it? http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn63/cclement45/IMG_1049.jpg If you don't have a can, I would get a AAC Blackout or a Smith Vortex flash suppressor. That thing is gonna let out a fireball. 10.5 flaming pig thru NV Im no expert, but maybe one will chime in... |

While not hurting a Pinnacle AG tube, (non AG tube may shut off), the flash does white out the front end of the gun for a 1/4 second or so. Rapid fire exacerbates the effect. |
