Ok, for all you PVS14 experts....  I have a couple questions.

First...the 2 AA battery type versus the newer 1 AA battery type, how bad is the 2 AA battery type?  I think I've read somewhere where the double AA cover breaks off easy...is this true?  How much of a liability is the older style?

Another question:  Is there any major differences between the Litton and the ITT?

The reason I ask is that I've found a used PVS14 with the double AA and the Litton tube.  I'm very tempted as this is over $1000 cheaper than a new one.

Any thoughts?  I appreciate everyone's input....I'm new to the PVS14s and can't actually see any to compare first hand, ya know?
Thanks!

I'd buy it.  All I have is the 2-AA ones, and never had a problem with the battery box.  I suppose if you beat the piss out of it and threw it down the driveway a few times it might break.  I can see the advantages of the 1 battery one with the screw-on cap, but the only advantages I've heard of is better water resistance and being lighter.  If it becomes a problem, you could always upgrade it to the single battery/new power supply type for about $300 Bones from places like Wolverine Technologies.

As far as the Litton vs. ITT tube, I don't know, as I've never compared the two.  I would guess it all depends on the grade and quality of the specific tube, but I just don't know if the ITT has any inherent advantages over the Litton.  As long as it's Gen3, with a reasonably clear tube (no big spots or evidence of damage from bright lights, lasers, etc.) and decent specs, I'd go for it.  If it comes with a Tube Data Sheet, you could compare it with the specs of the really good stuff that Vic sells.

Theres a big difference between the way we treat our high-dollar optics and the Military treats theirs, so I wouldn't sweat the 2-AA housing at all.

Keep in mind I am a total newb to NV but I do have the ITT double battery NQ6015.  A lanyard attached to the battery cap would make sure you never lose the cap but i can't see it coming off without really trying (a long drop maybe?).  In any case I'm not worried about mine coming off at all.

i would THINK that the single 1.5v version uses a boost/charge pump circuit to get the 3v needed. i have no actual experience with these units.

as far as i am concerned, when it comes to electronics, the less circuitry the better. its just another area that could possibly fail. ill take a direct connection over a multi component circuit any day of the week.

i see the cr123  and single aa battery coversions from time to time for under 200 bucks if it really bothers you
