What are the perks of a Mars reflex? Does the US military issue them? Whats the range on them?

Some units issue them.  I've seen Cavalry guys with them.  It is a space saver on the gun because the IR illuminator and Red Dot are all in one package.  This also helps to balance the weapon which tends to be front heavy with addition of lasers, lights, slings, fore grips, bipods, suppressors, etc.  By taking a big part and moving it to the receiver, the weapon tends to handle better.  The IR laser is simple and intuitive.  Nothing special and not strong as the PEQ-15 and 16.  But, it works and has a decent range (about 1500m give or take).  The red dot is also pretty simple.  But, I wouldn't say it is as robust as an Aimpoint.  I'm not a huge fan of the power switch location and lever.  But, it does the job.

The main drawback, out of the box, is that the addition of the laser raises the red dot window too high, keeping it from cowitnessing with irons.

Thanks for the information, TNVC_Clasky.  It's really helpful.  I just recently bought an IR version used but it's still boxed up and I haven't had time to play with it.

Sounds good.  I've got one on one of my AR's.  Overall, it's a good sight.  I just wish it was a little lower.

You know, I like a high sight.  I'm a big Eotech fan but I've always thought the 552's/551's were a bit low for my liking.  The 553's are a lot better in height and have me completely satisfied.  By looking at pictures, I think the MARS is a bit higher than that.  I guess I have to wait and see if I like the higher MARS.

Edit.  I was looking at the "throw" levers and I think that design needs some work.  Maybe there's a way (wire/zip tie) that will keep them from popping up.

I've been pretty happy with mine-it lives on a .22 carbine because I think the higher sight height will help with bullet drop over distance with it being zeroed for 100yds.

Mine repeats PERFECTLY between the laser and the dot. The power on the laser is better for indoor shooting than most factory IR lasers these days-it's only .3mw versus .5 so it blooms a little less.

I occasionally have a short in the battery cap where the sight will turn off until I twist it a bit. Might just need some wiping with some scotchbrite. Battery life has been really good. I pulled it out of the safe a week ago and forgot that I left it on. The last time I shot the gun was in November, and it was still glowing bright! It's also not the first time it's happened on that battery, maybe the third time. Bottom line is that it has been left on for a total of over 3 months on the same AA battery and is no brighter when I put a new battery in it.

Don't care for the pressure switch much, it's pretty agricultural and the velcro doesn't have enough ajustment to fit on thinner handguards.

Very pleased with the sight overall. I was going to sell it a while back when money was tight (It still is) but I'm glad I didn't now.

No way, maybe airsoft ones!

It's a solid unit, but yes it is too high up.  Pressue pad cord gets in the way, but if you rig it right this effect can be minimized.
