If I email a couple of pics can someone help me ID a PVS 7??? I'm unable to post pics, but can send them to your email address. I've been offered a set in trade for a rifle but know very little about them and don't want to end up with an obsolete unit.
Thanks, Derek |
| I can help you but what i really need is the info off the tube. The scope housing does not tell you much as the tubes are easily swapped in a PVS-7. Unscrew the front lens assembly and inside sits the tube. I need all the numbers off of it. The scope will need to be repurged once you open it. Be sure that's what you want to do. If your happy with it and it works well you may just want to leave well enough alone. |

Thanks for the response, I don't get alerts from here and forgot to check the posting. I only have a couple of emailed pics at this point and have not heard back from the guy yet. He offered a trade for one of my AR's, but I've got limited experience with the PVS7. It looks similar to the unit my PD recieved as part of a grant but I'm sure that doesn't mean much.
We've only used it for surveilance, can the PVS7 be used with iron or dot sights on a weapon or is a laser necessary? I noticed immediately the issues with focus near/far and depth perception. |

I would think iron sights would be very hard due to focus issues. IR laser would be the way to go with a headmounted PVS-7(even a quality green or red laser if complete stealth is not an issue). If the PVS-7 is the B model housing the most common tube I see is the MX-10130C. But like I said they can be swapped very easy in the 7 scopes. Anytime you buy a used scope I would get it purged anyhow because you have no idea when it was last done. If you can get the numbers off the tube I can tell you what you're buying. A good used PVS-7B with a Mx-10130C tube sells for around $1800 to $2000. Hope this helps in your decision. Ask for an inspection period and then you can get the numbers off the tube and check that all is well with the scope. Good luck |
