I have tried to read up on this , but there is too much info.  So here's a simple question.

I see a big difference when Da Torch  luminator is added to any NV scope , Now can you use it without broadcasting your position?

I am looking for something to use for surveillance of property.   If things get worst the city looters will be visiting us at night.

I suspect that if the looters have even cheapo Russian gear, that the Torch will be quite visible to them, being as it's a huge IR source. Okay if you are looking around during peacetime, or at animals, but in a situation where someone could have NV gear and might shoot back at you...

Good questions and a few points for you.  Any time your run IR gear (such as da torch, lasers etc.) , anyone with other NV can see you even with the cheap Gen 1 stuff.  Thus, have IR light discipline as you would with a white light.  Engage only when you need to and try not to get in the habit of running "constant on". Also, any IR LED bulb type WILL show a faint red VISIBLE glow that can be seen without a NOD. Most all of the LED IR lights on the market run in the 805-810nn range. Some IR LED's broadcast this glow more or less than others.  You can see a comparison I did here awhile back with some IR setups. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=304222

In closing, while IR gear will give you a great advantage at night, always be vigil that someone may be watching you with NV as well. Hope this helps.
