Anyone have a PEQ-2 mounted on a carbine length forearm and have an Aimpoint Comp M3 in a Larue cantilever mount?
I'm about to bite the bullet for my SBR and want to know if the PEQ will fit on the 12 o'clock rail or if I'll have to move it to the 3 o'clock rail because my aimpoint sticks too far forward (I mount it as far forward on the upper as possible). Thanks in advance! |

YHM rail. Not an SBR, but it is a carbine-length rail. Works great. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c193/dcspics/PEQ/IM004307.jpg ETA - this is the view through buis & aimpoint. The camera is slightly "higher" than your eye would be, so you don't actually see this much of the peq. In my normal-use mode (buis down, aimpoint on), I don't even notice the peq. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c193/dcspics/PEQ/IM004338.jpg Can you place your cantilever mount further forward on the rail, or does the aimpoint start to interfere with the PEQ? Thanks for the pic. |

You're welcome!
Where it sits now, the flip-cover barely misses the PEQ cable when you open/shut the cover. You could free up a little room by removing the flip cover or by pulling the PEQ cable (daytime). I don't know the make of the cantilever in the photo, but it's not a Larue. I wonder, is the Larue (or any other cantilever mount) supposed to lift the sight over the standard height of a peq? |

That's good info, thanks!
My PEQ is 1.07" tall, measuring from the top of a "rib" on the rail to the top plane of the PEQ body, or 1.22" tall when the reference point is the bottom of a "notch" on the rail. My cantilever provides exactly 1" of lift, measuring from a rail-notch to the bottom of the aimpoint tube. It seems likely a Larue cantilever would lift an aimpoint over the PEQ easily. |

Thank you SO much for the information guys. I was planning on getting the Larue QD mount for the PEQ, but I might wait to see how much clearance I have over the unit before I make that decision. I'm a huge advocate of QD mounts because you can have your rifle stripped naked for when you just want a lightweight plinker or have it all tacti-cooled out in under a minute's time.
Victor, do you think the stock PEQ mount (which to my understanding is based on a thumbscrew system) is satisfactory or does it have a reputation of loosening/coming off under lots of recoil? DCS, you are the shit –– thanks for the pics & info and especially thanks for the measurements. Now I can look at my rifle and make a determination. Tech forums rock! |
