I have seen alot of these on Ebay as of late. They usually remove the stickers with the NSN # and Serial or do creative picture taking like this guy and only take photos from the sides with no info. I have seen 7 units for sale in the last 10 days. I have no idea how these people get hold of them. One seller had 4 units. Al with NSN #,Cage and serial #. You would think these items would be under a little more security. |
| ENVIS is used by the Air Force pilots as an evasion monocular and with such, they have less security control than most items. There are a lot of ANVIS-9s that show up as well. You are right, Air Force accountability is pretty lax during this time of war and lots of stuff disappears by sticky fingers. Believe it or not, CID has little interest in this stuff as well. |
Maybe not the CID in your world, bit in my experience with the OSI has lot's of interests in theft period and is ever so present today as well. Hope this helps. |
Being involved with NV training and sales for many years, (sometimes new people around here think I'm just a salesmen sometimes which is unfortunate until they look around here a bit. ), but I've actually had several conversations with many govy entities informal and formal on gear to look out for. I do talk with LOT's of folk to say the least on a DAILY basis. My advice is always free as well! |

This may get me in trouble but at this point I am so fed up with what is going on it is time to put in out. The war is causing such a problem with accountability that these items are winding up in a pile of garbage just because someone let a battey corrode. Then the trash gets gone through by third country nationals doing a sort of trash and the item gets scooped up and ferried away. I recovered a complete M2 50 caliber in the trash and turned it in to re-establish accountability. There were places where you could find enough items in the trash with differnent parts broken that by picking up a few you could make a complete workable Envis or PVS-7 I tried the entire time I was deployed to fix this and did not make much of a dent in it other than always turning in what I found to the proper place to make accountability work like it should. |
First, good to see your type, I got your email a few weeks back thank you! Thanks for the information, does not surprise me ITT and Litton putting out 4,000 pieces per month with stuff like this happening. This gear needs to be cared for and/or disposed through the proper channels as we know. Thanks for sharing and be safe out there! Vic |
| At a NV conference a couple of years ago, I was talking to the Army NV PM and the discussion lead to missing goggles and I made a comment about them probably ending up on eBay. He didn't believe it, so I fired up the laptop and typed "ANVIS" into eBay search and there were four ANVIS-9 at the time, with one guy selling an HGU-55 with the goggles and the picture contained someone wearing the helmet with the goggles sitting behind a .50 in the door of a Marine UH-1 in a flight suit. The PM called CID and told them to look it up and their answer was that there were bigger fish to fry. It was obvious all four sets of ANVIS-9s were military property and two of the sellers were willing to sell worldwide! |
