Are there any products out there that have the following characteristics: 1) Able to be mounted to a bike helmet and the head 2) Able to be used to shoot a rifle that has an Aimpoint optic, while mounted on the head 3) Able to be used with eyeglasses Thanks. |
Your second requirement is sorta a toughy. Any mono that can mount up to standard USGI mounting gear will do it but, with just a mono on your head or helmet it is fairly awkward to line it up behind a day optic. Now I run a dual tube set up that makes this much easier but they are quite cost prohibitive. Is your goal to keep your rifle configured for day use and then simply switch your day optic to it's NV setting and be able to sight with it? IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |
That is what I'm hoping for. I just want to be able to crank the Aimpoint down to its NV setting for night use, while keeping the goggles/mono on my head. That way, I don't have to point my rifle at something to look at it during night. |
Not having to muzzle sweep everything in sight to simply view the surroundings is an admirable objective on your part. Unfortunately, the ergonomics of helmet-mounted NV and weapon-mounted optics don't tend to jive. The FDA [of all the freaking gov't entities], has in there infinite wisdom decided that IR lasers will be restricted from use by mere law-abiding civis. |

A dual tube set up will work better for this as you have 1. stereo vision and 2. the tube over the non sighting eye will provide more coverage allowing you to SORT OF get a cheek weld. What is the uber cool set up is walk around with a 3X mono on your weapon + an IR laser and goggles on your head... This way if you need to engage something close (say 0-100 meters) you simply use the laser. Anything over that, simply flip up the goggles and sight with the 3X mono and go from there. NOW that being said the above set up is WAY spendy in Gen 3. I think what your after is just being able to use your mono effectively with a decent check weld allowing sighting of the day optic correct? IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |
Exactly. I was looking at the PVS-7, but I read on another thread here that the PVS-7 doesn't give you very good depth perception, and therefore many folks are getting a monocular instead. However, as you said, the best setup may be dual tube binocs, but those are sort of pricey $$$. Can you get a decent cheek weld with a PVS-14 monocular? |
