I am thinking about putting together a NV scope for a one time hunting trip. I see alot of picture of a NV monocular setup behind a regular rifle scope. Can I use any type of NV mono and do that? Does the NV have to be behind the scope or can it be mounted in front? Without breaking the bank, Any suggestions on a NV monocular? I will be hunting hogs in Tx. this fall, probable not shooting over 100 yards I would guess. |
For your range requirments and without breaking the bank, da D-300 is a great choice. You can see the placement of the D-300 in this thread. D-300 All monoculars need to go behind the aiming reticle except for the 8K+ PVS-22 which goes in front of just about anything! Vic P.S. Welcome to the NV forum! |

Vic, I have read the post as well as your others. You are a wealth of good info. Two quick questions, Maybe I didn't fully read the info. 1. Can I use the D300 behind say a Nikon 4-12x50 rifle scope? 2. Can I use the D300 all by itself? Does it have a reticle? I guess that was three questions. Thanks. |
1. Yes, with the use of a universal adapter. 2. No the D-300 does not have a reticle and must be used with an optic that does, so long as it has a NV setting such as the Aimpoint and EO tech. Hope this helps Vic |

Vatopa, I have been experimenting lately with an NVD behind a day optic, and have found that: -supplemental IR illumination is essential, even with good glass and Gen3 -magnification above 4-5X starts getting tough, even with Gen3 and supplemental IR From a practical standpoint, either the day optic needs to be moved forward, or the stock extended rearward to make room for the NVD. Good luck with your hunt. |

MM, I am thinking about setting up my Remmy 700 in .223. I may need to change the day scope to something a little less powered. Thanks for the replies. Any ideas, suggestion etc. are benificial when you are about to drop 2 grand on something. What is that on top of the rifle? Is that a flashlight or IR type device? |
