Made it out to the range again this AM to catch the tail end of the good part of this lunar cycle, and set up a scenario with two cover points and three BG's for a 12-round CoF. Ran eight mags through the carbine, and ten through the Glocks. Anyway, it was plenty humid, and I had some minor issues with fogging. I guess now I know what the demist shield is for; too bad it was forgotten at home. Do y'all do anything else to mitigate this? Also, reading the manual, it says that wiping the demist while wet will damage the coating. I use "99.953%" isopropyl on my day optics, is this OK for the PVS/demist as well? Thanks. |

Does your eyepiece have a threaded eye cup retaining ring? If so see if you can remove the eyecup retaining ring by gently twisiting it off. If you can, then CAREFULLY clean the rear eyepiece glass and coat it with fog tech or some other anti fog and then forget about the demist shield. I don't have any made up at the moment but I run a larger ID eyecup retaining ring on all my units that provides a much larger viewing area. You can mount your unit further from your eye if you have to wear goggles or the like. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |

It looks like my eyecup retaining ring is not threaded, but rather "glued" in place. I should still be able to clean the lens OK, though. I assume it is safe to clean the lenses with pure [not the crappy 70% drug store stuff] isopropyl alcohol, just like I do my coated day optics? Will also get some anti-fog goop in lieu of the demist. By the way, just noticed that the diopter managed to get adjusted to -2; that probably wasn't helping either. |
If you can find a NEW natural hair small paint brush to get any solid debris off of the eyepiece before cleaning. 99% alcohol is pretty strong stuff and while I have used it and it does not strip the coatings off it will eat the white paint that makes up your diopter adjustments. Try this 1. Canned air 2. New CLEAN paint brush 3. Q tip mositened with water. That SHOULD get the glass clean. A note here be careful about scratching the eye piece glass it will degrade your viewed image WAY more than any scratch on the objective lens will. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |
