I am ready to buy NV equipment soon, but as a new user, I have been granted the good fortune of a gracious cousin whom already owns PVS-14's, MUM's and IR lasers, offering to let me use his for a while in exchange for taking him to my ranch for hog hunts. I already own my own Eo 552, and I am going to try several different setups for hog hunting. Based upon research and help from many of you (thanks Victor and IPSC guy), I am leaning toward the PVS-14, and then concomitant use of the Eotech, and/or the IR laser. Here's my question: What is the best rail system to use, in order to have the rail real estate necessary to forward mount the Eotech, when using the 3X magnifier? I have a CAR length 6.8 SPC flattop upper. I hope to also mount a Torch IR illuminator on the rails, and perhaps VFG and the laser as well. (how's that for a Hog killing machine??heap Weight is critical, because I will sometimes walk over three miles in search of these vicious beasts. Your expertise would be appreciated, and pictures would also be very helpful! |

Choose a good rail system that will provide you a stable platform to mount your optic. Does your rifle have a Front sight base or not? That will make a bit of difference. If you are running a front sight base, I highly suggest that you consider doing away with it to get more rail to use. The Vltor is not a bad system. Much Cheaper than the MRP route I wound up taking. Another possibility is the PRI system with an ARMs full length rail ala the SPR. I hope that helps, IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |

All good advice. In response to ISC guy: I have the picatinny rail gas block, NO front sight. If I mount the Wolverine laser on the front sight rail, will it obsure the view through the EO? I am leaning toward the YHM or Daniel Defense, lightweight four rail handguard so that I can concomitantly mount Da Torch one one side and possibly the IR laser on the other. The four-rail also gives me the option to use a VHG. THANKS! |
